She is currently working on a book publication about the Backer family in Skien, a Jewish family that was split during World War II. She holds a PhD in History from the University of Bergen and has been a researcher and lecturer at the Universities of Oslo and Bergen, as well as a guest professor at Humboldt University in Berlin.

Jorunn was the director of the museum from 2012 to 2022.
