In 2025, the Porcelain Museum celebrates its 10th anniversary, and we are marking the occasion with the jubilee exhibition “Promp & Prakt \u2013 The History of Sanitary Porcelain.”<\/em><\/p>\n

It’s not just cups and plates that were crafted from the white gold of Porsgrund; toilets, urinals, and sinks were also made from it.<\/p>\n

The sanitary porcelain factory at Roligheten in Porsgrunn has closed down, but the building still stands. In the exhibition, you\u2019ll discover more about another side of porcelain history in Porsgrunn.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

A Bit of History<\/h2>\n

In 1948, A\/S Sanit\u00e6rporselen was established at Roligheten in Porsgrunn, initiated by Porsgrunds Porsel\u00e6nsfabrik AS. The factory was originally built by the Germans during the war as a cryolite factory. As part of the government’s post-war reconstruction program, industrial development in Porsgrunn was prioritized, including both the restoration of existing industries and the establishment of new ones, such as Sanit\u00e6rporselen.<\/p>\n

In February 1950, the first products from the sanitary porcelain factory were released to the market.<\/p>\n

In 1992, the company changed its name to Porsgrund Bad AS, marking a transition to a comprehensive supplier concept within the bathroom sector. Since the 1990s, whirlpool tubs, bathtubs, showers, and electronic products have been introduced to the Norwegian market.<\/p>\n
