The Fantastical Kittelsen Has Opened!

This year’s big news at Brekkeparken is now open! A magical experience for the whole family.

Storytime in Theodor Kittelsen’s World, children sitting inside a tree and a grown up is reading a book for them.

Friday, February 6, was a day of celebration at the museum in Brekkeparken. In addition to the seasonal opening, we also launched a brand-new experience: The Fantastical Kittelsen. Here, you can sit back and enjoy Kittelsen’s magical universe, projected onto the walls and other surfaces throughout the room. Step inside the cozy little cabin and take a seat, or crawl into the fairy-tale tree and enjoy a digital break with wonderful storybooks.

The Fantastical Kittelsen is just as suitable for children as for adults. If you’re on a romantic date, a little art break in The Fantastical Kittelsen is the perfect experience for the two of you.

For families with children, we recommend Storytime in Theodor Kittelsen’s World every Saturday at 1:00 PM in February. (The storytelling is only in norwegian.) After storytime in the fairytale room, you can join in and learn a troll dance! The dance is organized in collaboration with Gjerpen Frilynte Ungdomslag.

When you purchase a day ticket, you get access to Theodor Kfittelsen’s fantastical experience, Karsten and Petra’s Playroom, and the major exhibition All This Is Yours. Guided tours are also available, just ask at the reception.

Director Christine Hermansen and Project Manager Aleksander S. Andersen from Telemark Museum opened the celebration. Christine highlighted how important Theodor Kittelsen’s art remains, also for children today. Aleksander spoke about the process and the work behind the project. And—there’s more to come… In a cozy cabin, we are creating a game that will be announced later this year. Something to look forward to!

The museum in Brekkeparken is open Thursday–Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM until May 1. The summer season begins then, with extended opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM.
