The department is responsible for maintaining over 112 buildings, 101 of which are heritage buildings and 24 are listed (protected). The Building Preservation and Operations department includes three maintenance workers and two craftsmen who manage and maintain the museum’s buildings.

Jan is a trained carpenter, has worked as a construction teacher, and in recent years has served as operations manager and project manager for Viken County Municipality.
He has led major construction projects.
