Beekeeping

(TGM-BM.1988:001)
We do not know exactly how long beekeeping has been practised in Norway, but we do know that the Vikings used both honey and beeswax in their brewing and jewellery production. In the mid-1800s, new methods of beekeeping were developed, which created a large beekeeping industry in Norway. Here you can see a mating hive, owned by John Skogen (1893-1976) in Lisleherad. It is said that John Skogen was the first queen breeder of importance in Telemark.
